Worlds 2011: Chaos Strikes Back, The Return to Helsinki!

Chaos left in 2005 with our heads down, now we are back to redeem that visit.
We touched down yesterday. Chaos will be represented by John, Jack, Jeremy, PT, and Tuan.
Here is the breakdown, PT and Jer, Jack and John, and Tuan and Carlos Marquez of Venezuela will compete in Open Doubles. PT and Jody Welch will attempt to defend their world title in mixed, along with Jer and Julie Symons. John, Jack and Tuan will be representing in Open Singles. Lets get it on!!!

Quickly after landing we headed straight to a local craft beer festival, where we met our new local sponsor TEERENPELI, I am not sure if the owners know that they are sponsoring us, but the brewers definitlely do, we didn’t buy a beer for the last two hours of the festival, quite the welcome back. Ok, more to come soon.

World Website is here and you can follow the brackets and daily match ups here

Chaos takes the 2011 Windy City Cup!!!

Sweet Home Chicago! Yes we did it up right, tons of spiking, digging, blocking, eating and of course some drinking. Jeremy Mirken and I beat Walt Houston and Ben Alston of Memphis Footworks in two games to keep the Windy City Cup as property of the Chaos. This completes a father’s day three-peat for me which is always special, love you Dad thanks for coming out! Tuan Vu and Martin Cote of Montreal beat Yves Archambault and Dominic O’brien of Montreal in two games to take third. Walt Houston is the singles champion, he defeated Martin Cote in two. Major props to the"Assault" on getting his first singles title in open competition. This epic weekend of fun culminated in an after party Wrigleyville till sunrise. Thanks to Scot, Cory, Tnasty, Bryan and the rest of the crew for the hard work. The finals site was sweet right on Navy Pier in the heart of the city of broad shoulders. See you next year for sure. Da Bears! Full results here To see some nice pics of the weekend check out ZEKE’s Gallery

Next stop: Portland, look for Jack, Jer and Tuan to represent!

As For The Green Cup 2011 - Au Revoir

Chaos Footbag: Championship Monday at The 2011 Green Cup - 5-30-2011
Championship Monday at The 2011 Green Cup - 5-30-2011

Here’s what ESPN page 2 has to say: http://espn.go.com/espn/page2/index?id=6615647

Here’s what I have to say…

Santa Cruz, Oakland, San Francisco, Portland, Memphis… Montreal, Berlin.  Over 30 players and 15 open doubles teams.  Francois Depatie Pelletier and Luc Legault stand on top!  Yves Kriel is a Champion.  The Green Cup will spend a long cold winter in the hands of our enemies.  $#%* this!

I mean, it was a great weekend and I’m so thankful rasberry.

Chaos #3 and Jody Welch are the mixed doubles champions again.  It was a great mixed doubles final on Sunday night.  Thanks for the show Jeremy and Julie (the damn - it shoulda went 3 - silver metalists).

Chaos #4 and 2, John Leys and Jack Harris, defeated Yves Archambault and Yves Kriel for the bronze metal.

The weather was just about perfect for competition on Championship Monday and Jake Declercq set a new world record in the ‘OMG that was some friggin tasty tri-tip’ category!  Chaos set a new Green Cup record for beer quality - period (Lagunitas, Booze Brothers, and Dying Vines).

We hosted 3 super cool house parties starting out Friday night at PT’s with 8 different home brews on tab, followed on Saturday night with Jack’s Bachelor pad in the Berkeley Hills… hot tub, deck, fine tequila, yada yada, and finished with the after Championship Monday party at the Ley’s residence with food galor, more beer, more tequila, more noise… shhhhhhh the neighbors are trying to… whoopsie there goes the freestyle net player into the hot tub.  smile

Remi Kristensen and Alan Peterson played their fist competition in over 15 years.  It was great to see them back on the court.

Damn it! I don’t have freestyle results yet but that’s my own fault because Steve ran freestyle and he no doubt has all the details.  I’ll get them up here asap.

Wait, here they are - Complete Results on FW

Short and bitter sweet is the competition story from my perspective.  Perhaps I’ll be back with more on that.

On behalf of The Chaos Footbag Club I want to thank all the players who took the time and made the trek.  We also have a tremendous staff who, again, came together to make this year’s event a great success.  Thank You!  I will dare to note standout staff members at the risk of missing folks.

All our line judges on Monday
Brad - everything including my partner on the mic on Monday
Carine - not just for dealing with us, which is enough, but also for a great party Monday night, etc!
Chris Ott - site producer and head judge - always clutch with the banners and more!
David Butcher - making sure Edwin gathered some line judges on Monday and head judging much of the afternoon when not line judging
Dustin - on the tunes all day Monday - yes?
Edwin - gathering line judges Monday
Jake - everything including a ruinous performance on Saturday night and an outstanding job on the grill Monday
Jack Harris - shit… flatbed, Saturday party, countless other things
Jeremy - generator plus!
Jay - for showing us a little freestyle on Monday despite being overworked and underpaid
John - Director… too much to mention really.  Great job Johnny!  Ok, 1 of particular note - perfect timing on the little body check putting Yves K into the hot tub.
Josh DeClercg - where the hell are you man?
Katie - merchandise and food prep on Monday, cupcakes, smiles
The family Leys for making it out.
Leti - hostess, apron craftswoman, merchandise and food prep on Monnday, medals, and more
Lisa - what am I missing here?  damn it!
Me - for not playing Van Hagar
Pat Keehan - our bodywork man, our margarita man, and he’s also on general staff
PT - I don’t know how you pull us all together but you have a vision and it keeps on keepin on.  oh yeah, and plus all the actual work you did, and the Brew.
The family ShrickRiguez for making it out.
Steve Goldberg - for completely owning and driving the freestyle event.  Amazing!  We need to show freestyle some more love next year.
Tuan - housing czar, Sunday daytime event director, on and on
The Team

Did I miss anyone?  Hopefully I’ll remember or someone will remind me and I’ll correct.

See you next year at The Green Cup!

Championship Monday at The 2011 Green Cup

Chaos Footbag: Caue Leys is Chaos Cute at The Green Cup
Caue Leys is Chaos Cute at The Green Cup

We started with 15 teams and we’re down to the final four.  It’s Championship Monday at The 2011 Green Cup!  El Charro, Chaos Rousse, Hop Candy among other treats will be on tap for your drinking pleasure today.  As far as the competition goes, hmmm, Montreal Chaos… Chaos Montreal?  Take your pick.  No seriously… please see our little survey below.

We start at 1pm in Golden Gate Park’s Peacock Meadow with the first semifinal match in Open Doubles net.  It will be Chaos #4, John Leys, and Chaos #2 Jack Harris VS Frank ‘The Tank’ Depatie Pelletier and Luc Legault (Montreal).

At approximately 2pm Chaos #3, Poppa PT, and Chaos #25, Jeremy Mirken will face Yves Archambault (Montreal) and Yves Kriel (traning in Montreal but from Berlin) to see who else goes to the final in Open Doubles net.

In Mixed Double the current World Champions Jody Welch and PT Lovern defeated Julie Symons and Jeremy Mirken last night in an exciting and extremely well played match - 22-20, 21-19.

On the Open Singles side Yves Kriel earned his first shot at a title at The Green Cup by defeating Jeremy Mirken in straight sets.  Luc Legault defeated Yves Archambault in 3.

Take the survey: Chaos or Montreal today at The Green Cup 2011?

The Final Round of "Auditions" for The Green Cup 2011 - Today

Some highlights from Green Cups passed are apropos - yes? Thx Manu!

The Hane Danes, Remi Kristenson and Alan Peterson, are here and playing together after a 15 year hiatus and we’re so happy to host them.  They’re competing for a spot in the elite eight at 1pm today.

It’s elimination day at the Green Cup - the final round of “auditions” for the show tomorrow smile.  Regardless of the outcome, the party will continue for all.  Tonight’s feature matches are brought to you by Dying Vines Brewery.  We’ll be playing all the quarter final matches in doubles net, the semifinal in open singles, and a Prelude to Ruin will be getting LOUD for us and capping off the evening at The Bushrod Recreation center.

Please come out and celebrate with us tonight in Oakland or tomorrow in Golden Gate Park or… both smile.
